The Educational Assessment and Examinations Service (EAES) in Ethiopia is responsible for developing, administering, and ensuring the quality of national examinations at various educational levels. EAES began its operations in the 1940s under the Ministry of Education and Fine Arts, with national examinations such as the General Certificate Examination (GCE) and the Ethiopian School Leaving Certificate Examination (ESLCE). By 1950, the ESLCE was administered as an independent national examination, eventually replacing the London-based GCE by 1959 to align more closely with Ethiopian educational needs.
