EDUCATIONAL LANDSCAPE
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development is responsible for planning and implementation of all government education programmes in the country. The first 12 years of formal schooling are divided into a 7+3+2 structure (7 years primary, 3 years junior secondary, and 2 years senior secondary). The Botswana Examinations Councils runs exit examinations for the three levels within the current structure (RNPE, 1994). For more information visit www.moe.gov.bw.
THE HOST INSTITUTION
The Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) is a semi-autonomous body of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development. It is mandated to conduct school examinations and other forms of examinations deemed appropriate by the Ministry. The BEC also issues certificates in respect of such examinations. The Botswana Examinations Council will host the 30th Conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa in August 2012. Please refer to www.bec.co.bw
THE CONFERENCE
The Association of Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) holds annual research conferences that serve as a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas on examinations and assessment issues. Targeted participants of the conferences are educational assessment practitioners, academics and scholars from Africa and the world at large. The Botswana Examinations Council will host the 30th AEAA Conference in Gaborone, from 6th to 10th August 2012.
